Recruiting Local Pokemon Fans! ^.^ [May. 17th, 2009|01:51 pm]
Nintendo DS Owners in Huntsville, AL

cordials
Greetings, fellow North Alabamian DS owners! =D

My name is Kath; I'm sixteen and currently living in Athens. I'm looking to organize a Huntsville-based group for older fans and supporters of the Pokemon franchise, including the games, TCG, and anime. I've always been surprised by the Huntsville area's general enthusiasm for the various aspects of Pokemon, from the clubs held at bookstores early on to (more recently) Athens' own TCG league, hosted by the now-defunct Valhalla Cards and Comics. With the recent release of Platinum and the phenomenon enjoying a bit of revival, I thought it would be effective to "seize the moment" by bringing North Alabama's resident fans together to meet one another and recruit new fans.

I thought it might be ideal for meetings to be held twice a month at the same date and time (for example, at 5:00 p.m. on the first and third Fridays each month). Meetings could possibly take place in the Fountain shopping center on North Memorial Parkway (with Toys 'R' Us and Books-A-Million, both Poke-friendly venues) and in members' homes, though I'm open to other suggestions. Some of the activities I have in mind for us to do include wi-fi battles and such, merchandise swaps, art exchanges, karaoke and Wii nights, movie viewings, and holiday events. If there's enough interest, maybe we could restart the local TCG league and host it at the library.

Please reply or PM me with any and all feedback. I'm really hoping to make this group a success and keep the spirit of Pokemon alive in and around Huntsville! ^_~

Dear Huntsville DS owners,

Have you got tickets to the midnight showing of Watchmen? If you are that kind of nerd, please bring your DS along! Waiting for the show to start would be an excellent time for some pick-up games or ink-blot pictochats.
For extra credit reply to this entry with what games you'd like to see floating around the movie theater.

OK, since I got some positive feedback on the idea let’s see if we can plan a huntsville_DS meetup. I was thinking about doing it some saturday afternoon at the Flying Monkey. How about either this saturday (the 26th) or next saturday (the 2nd) around 2pm? They have a nice little public lounge area in the back now with plenty of seating that I think would be ideal. They also have wi-fi but it seems pretty sluggish in that part of the building.

Best Buy has Bomberman DS on sale for $15. If you're looking for a fun 8-player battle game w/ single-cart multiplayer, this is the game you've been waiting for. :)

Does anyone know if any of the Gamestops in the Huntsville area are doing the Mario Kart DS Tournament (I read about it here: http://community.livejournal.com/nintendo_ds/927001.html)? I don't wanna call em all and ask, but I guess I will if there's no one knows.

I would totally pwn in that tourney. So yeah, if they're not, I can at least pwn all you guys when we have our DS-fest.

Just jumping in to say hello. I'm curious to see if anyone still checks this community... After the penny arcade expo I've been going through major DS pickup game withdrawl, we should do something!

I've had Animal Crossing for quite a while, but only recently got a wireless router here in my home and acquired a friend code. I don't play it as often as I used to, but here's the code if you want to visit me. : )

I've created a new community, tetris_ds, for the release of Tetris DS yesterday. Any and everyone are welcome to join! If plugging new communities is against the rules, I'll delete it. I didn't see a problem in any info sections.
